Ranching - Lincoln, Nebraska, United States
Currently, small to medium cattle ranches are monitoring their water sources using a manual approach, where a person has to drive to each tank and check its status visually, with no idea of the condition of the tank before leaving the ranch or any official measurements regarding the tank's status. Each of these tanks are about 1-10 miles from the ranch, and anywhere from 1-15 miles from each other. The current process takes a lot of time and money away from these ranchers. We decided that ranchers need a communicative and reliable tank management solution, and that is Cattle Kettle. Cattle Kettle has the capacity to measure three major features of tank status: how full the tank is, or water level, water temperature, and water inflow, and can use these measurements to automate electric pumps or heaters and send notifications to the rancher when the tank actually requires maintenance, rather than checking every tank. This is the first system available to ranchers in the U.S. that provides tank information to the rancher's device using app notifications or text messages, the first system that can measure and react to water inflow, and the first system to provide this data to the ranchers in a measurable and readable form online. Once a rancher can measure how well a cow has been taken care of, the beef becomes worth more, boosting the ranching economy and making money for the rancher. Additionally, our system is highly customizable and compatible with most industry standard tank heaters that are already in use, pushing even the most established of operations forward. It is our honor to introduce Cattle Kettle, the future of livestock management.
