UK's leading charity providing comprehensive information & support for those affected by cavernoma. 🧠A Cavernoma is an abnormality in a blood vessel in the brain or spinal cord. Cavernomas can haemmorhage causing symptoms such as haemmorhagic stroke, seizures & focal neurological deficit. Also known as cavernous malformation or cavernous angioma, cavernoma can be inherited affecting children, young people & adults alike. There are no disease modifying drugs for cavernoma, and there is not treatment - but there are several promising candidates with proof of concept in human and animal studies. 🔬CAUK is the patient group for the first ever pilot clinical trial for Cavernoma - the CARE study - which seeks to determine the most effective treatment for symptomatic brain cavernoma. 🌐 We are proud to be part of a conglomerate of patient groups and organisations across the globe - including US, Canada, Italy, Spain, Brazil, the Philippines, and Sweden. Together, we work toward the shared goals of bettering the lives of those affected by cavernoma, improving treatment and care, and finding a cure.
