Mission: CDi is a grassroots, volunteer-led non-profit organization fostering sustainable, ecological & harmonious communities, urban & rural, in the US & abroad. We inspire community pride and ownership, facilitate dialogue and collaboration. We use food & trees to make cross-border connections, sustainable agriculture and reforestation as a tool for social justice and inclusion. We partner with community youth leaders to provide "green inspiration", training, capacity building & international exchange. Concerned with human & environmental health, we support US & Haitian micro-entrepreneurs, host workshops and community tree planting events.Vision: A world in which conscious communities act as bottom-up agents for enduring social, environmental and economic change through intercultural partnerships, peer-to-peer exchange, bottom-up programs and leadership. We thrive to achieve our vision through four broad areas of focus: Community Building, Sustainability, Advocacy, Health & Well-Being. We do our work from the physical base that is New Earth Farm in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, where international farmer exchanges are hosted and where our educational events series spanning horticulture, nutrition and ecology are offered to the public under the non-profit's fiscal umbrella. We further support entrepreneurs, educators and growers in Haiti (Nouvo Tè Farm), build capacity in local Haitian enterprises and community organizations, promote tourism to the country ("Tour de Quisqueya"), and are active in the cycling community advocating for physical activity and raising funds for reforestation efforts and community tree-planting initiatives ("Miles of Trees")CDi is further committed to bringing up-to-date information on matters of local and international community development and ecology to audiences through newsletters and events such as art exhibits, panel discussions and movie screenings.
