Accelerators are important scientific tools that generate beams of charged particles for a tremendous variety of applications ranging from electron microscopy to particle physics and from microelectronics to medicine. This center's overarching research goal is to decrease the cost of key accelerator technologies while simultaneously increasing the intensity ("brightness") of charged particle beams by a factor of 100. By enhancing accelerator capabilities, this Science and Technology Center (STC) will contribute to scientific and technological advances in many disciplines, ranging from physics to chemistry to biology.
