Dr. Robert B. Pojasek started teaching at the Harvard University Extension School in 2000. He taught a course on a "Systems Approach to Pollution Prevention." He has been working in the field of pollution prevention and process improvement since 1981 and published more than 50 journal articles on the topic.In 2002, Dr. Pojasek, Dr. Jack Spengler and Mr. George Buckley received approval to start an Environmental Management and Sustainability Program at the Harvard Extension School. Dr. Pojasek taught a course, "Strategies for Sustainability Management" that would serve as the transition for an organization as they moved from environmental management to sustainable development. Dr. Pojasek was honored with the Extension School's, Petra T. Shattuck Excellence in Teaching Award in 2008. His courses had attracted online students from 50 countries.In 2015, the course was modified to "Fundamentals of Organizational Sustainability." It was time to move from "stand-alone" sustainability and use the international "high-level structure" to combine, environment, health & safety, energy management, social responsibility and sustainability. A textbook was added to the course in 2017 ("Organizational Risk Management and Sustainability: A Practical Step-by-Step Guide"). In 2020, the Center for Corporate Performance & Sustainability was officially opened.
