The databases enable citizens to inform themselves quickly on a variety of topics, and to easily find information they rarely have access to.After CIN published its findings, law enforcement agencies would frequently launch investigations to check out allegations. This often caused government institutions to change their rules and regulations and some legislators filed petitions that led to legislative change due to CIN's stories.Every year CIN reporters send out several hundred requests for access to information the government collects, most often about how public money has been spent. In many cases, institutions don't comply with requests setting off legal disputes that postpone access to this information for months. CIN won 11 court cases against institutions that tried to keep public information secret.Every year CIN reporters win awards for investigative reporting given by prestigious international and local organizations.
