The Center for the Study of Race & Democracy (CSRD) is a scholarly and civic project within the LBJ School of Public Affairs established in 2015 by founding director, Dr. Peniel E. Joseph. Professor Joseph began the first Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at Tufts University as an outgrowth of a series of conferences beginning in 2010, held at Tufts University.The CSRD promotes engaged research and scholarship focused on the ways race, democracy, and public policy impact the lives of global citizens. To this end, the CSRD holds frequent events in collaboration with renowned scholars, university departments and institutes, and community organizations to explore questions of social importance.
