Health, Wellness & Fitness - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States
Based on the premise that "Healthy Babies Begin Before Birth," the Central Oklahoma Healthy Start Initiative (COHSI) creates a comprehensive, wrap-a-round network of educational, social, and medical referral services to mommies, daddies, and babies (from conception to the age of two).Funded in large part by the Health Resources & Services Administration's (HRSA's) Maternal Child Health Bureau of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Central Oklahoma Healthy Start Initiative draws it's local, foundational strength from being a service site of Oklahoma's premier Community Healthy Centers, Inc. On a national level, the Central Oklahoma Healthy Start Initiative is a member of the National Healthy Start Association, which shares in the COHSI vision of engaging in meaningful work that will reduce infant mortality, improve perinatal outcomes, and strike at the heart of disparities in health care that negatively impact racial minorities as well as poor, under-served populations in definable areas in Oklahoma County.COHSI believes that positive perinatal outcomes should exists regardless of a family's zip code, and that quality health care as well as equal access to community resources and education are inherent, fundamental rights that undergird a moral right to the best measure of good health that society is able to provide.
