Centre for Rural Education and Development Action (CREDA) was founded in 1982 as a society registered under Societies Registration Act of 1860. The objective for founding the society was to work for the cause of overall community development. But the organisation concentrated its effort for protecting the children from entering into labour work. Emphasis was given in eliminating the child labour and interventions for wider coverage of potential child labours in the carpet belt so that their entry into labour market could be effectively checked. The strategy adopted is to provide better school facilities with quality education and enhance the process of community participation on the issue of exploitation of child labour and education for needy children.The organisation also made its intervention in the field of community health, employment oriented training, formation of self-help credit groups, health education, care of elderly, skill training of women and adolescents, literacy among women, studies and research on various aspects of problems of community, child labour, rural workers. The organisation is also active in organizing training, orientation, workshop and seminars for its staff and for the benefit of other NGOs, action groups and volunteers belonging to our working areas and other parts of U. P. Intervention to improve the situation of MNREGA.CREDA is a non-religious non-political organization having a group of specialised and professional people to carry out various programmes/activities. The organization has been represented in several advisory and policy-making bodies/committees of Central Government ministries, National Commission on Labour, Planning Commission, etc. The organization enjoys very good reputation among rural masses as well as concerned government authorities. The work of CREDA has been nationally and internationally documented by experts and organization which speak the successful implementation of the projects/programmes and also highlights the replicability of our efforts, e.g. the "Children's Parliament" introduced in child labour schools run by CREDA has been documented by a British author and this programme has been adopted by Government of Orissa as part of curriculum to reach to nearly 5 million children at primary level.
