The main objectives of the Brazilian Wind Energy Center are: Performance assessment of wind turbines in real operating conditions; Gauging and calibration of design parameters for wind turbines such as power curve, efficiency, sensors adjustment, nacelle yaw speed, electrical frequency control, remote control of wind turbines, aerodynamic brakes, etc.; Technical fitting of wind turbines for Brazilian northeastern region wind conditions; Determination of the main loads (extreme and fatigue) acting on wind turbines in Brazilian wind conditions; Data acquisition for determination of technical regulations and standardizing of wind turbines for Brazilian applications; Structural analysis of wind turbines (experimental); Aeroelastic analysis of wind turbine rotors (experimental); Wind turbines and wind/solar/diesel hybrid power systems demonstration, including dynamic stability analysis for high wind/diesel penetration; Wind energy penetration and control strategies for wind/solar/diesel hybrid power systems studies; Validation of computer simulation models with experimental results; Definition of safe control strategies for wind/diesel systems, previous to installation in remote areas; Precise data analysis - ventilation, humidity, temperature - to subsidize architecture projects adequate to the climatic conditions of Brazilian northeastern region. With the available resources, many systems can be tested and assessed under real operational conditions, such as: wind/diesel hybrid power systems for isolated applications; wind/solar hybrid systems for rural electrification; wind energy supplied water desalination systems; wind energy supplied water pumping/irrigation systems.
