Chariteach is an innovative, collaborative tutoring network that aims to connect and support undergraduate university students. It was founded to address a prevailing issue within universities. Currently, there are a myriad of tutoring services available for high school and primary school students. However, there is no effective solution to support disengaged and struggling students in university. Although the University provides numerous services, they are often difficult to navigate and daunting to approach.Disengaged students often feel unsupported and disconnected from the university community - putting them at risk of poor mental health and drop-out. Of those, students from disadvantaged backgrounds, first-in-family students, and international students are amongst the most vulnerable. We also aim to address the perennial problem of social disconnection. Too often, we hear that students find it difficult to meet new people and make and maintain friendship.Through our collaborative sessions, students are able to form connections and friendships both between and within year levels, whilst accessing extra academic support. Chariteach is also an opportunity for older students to give back to the university community and consolidate their learning and communication skills through teaching others, offering their experience and expertise to younger peers. All sessions will be free and open to every student for equity and access.
