Former Councilman Steve Napolitano said, "He remembers playing beach volleyball back in the eighth grade when Saikley was known as the ‘beach dad'. He encouraged us, gave us guidance, and set the standard for tournaments up and down the beach. He always had a smile on his face. He gave so much to the city and to the kids. Whether or not they know it, anyone who has played in a beach volleyball tournament owes a debt of gratitude to Charlie Saikley." Courtesy of Beach Reporter, June 23, 2005 Today, Beach Volleyball has exploded in growth and popularity throughout California and is not only spreading across the nation, internationally as well, due to its recognition as an Olympic Sport and most recently a NCAA collegiate sport. This growth in volleyball has created a demand for Quality, Trustworthy, Distinguished and Reputable beach volleyball instruction. In 2010, "The Charles Saikley Volleyball Academy" (CSVBA) will launch its first phase of programs, offering specific services including: Volleyball Classes (available ages 6 years and up), Adult Clinics, Private Lessons, Semi- Private Lessons and CBVA (California Beach Volleyball Association) tournaments for the youth and adults of the South Bay. The tradition and reputation of Manhattan Beach Volleyball has inspired the Saikley's to continue the legacy of Charlie Saikley, ‘The Godfather of Beach Volleyball', who helped pioneer and maintained the values and integrity of world class beach volleyball. The "Charles Saikley Volleyball Academy" will continue to produce, fundamentally sound players, who share a passion for, and love of the game of volleyball, and continually strive to improve, through each class, lesson, clinic or tournament in which they participate.
