Charm City Companions (CCC) is a 501c3 social justice non-profit organization in Baltimore City focusing on building healthier, safer and strong community through pet wellness. CCC was formally organized in May 2014. Prior to this formation, a team of volunteers, including founders Annie Pruitt and Emily Kelley, worked for a year conducting a comprehensive community assessment of Baltimore City as it pertains to under-served community pet families to explore needs. Our mission is to work along side community residents and other stakeholders to facilitate access to free and low-cost, pet wellness resources in effort to support healthier, safer and stronger neighborhoods. CCC strives to keep pets off the streets, out of the shelters and in their homes with the companions they love. Research shows that pets help people feel purpose and live healthier lives. Connecting pet families to pet resources leads to healthier neighborhoods.We are not a shelter or rescue group, and we do not take pets. CCC is a community outreach initiative implementing the Pets for Life community outreach model, designed to extend animal welfare resources and information to pet owners who have unlikely received services, and if so without long-lasting impact. Our program works with community members who volunteer with our organization. Our area of focus is at the core of one zip code, although we respond to needs of five zip codes in an East Baltimore cluster of poverty.
