Higher Education - San Antonio, Texas, United States
Rooted in the belief that food is medicine, CHEF is a Culinary Health Education Program that teaches children and families basic nutrition and practical cooking skills, with the long-term goal of motivating individuals and communities to adopt and sustain healthier eating habits.Conceived and created in San Antonio, Texas in 2017, CHEF offers an innovative, evidence-based approach to addressing the rising rates of diet-related chronic disease by providing engaging school-based programming to students (grades Pre-K through 8) that includes nutrition education, culinary skills training, and increased access to healthy food. To do this, CHEF collaborates with a network of passionate local partners, deeply embedded in the community and serving large numbers of children. Our partnerships with school districts, The City of San Antonio's Mayor's Fitness Council, the City of San Antonio's Metropolitan Health District, the City of San Antonio's "Pre-K 4 SA" program, The Children's Hospital of San Antonio, and the San Antonio Food Bank, and others ensure the provision of a coordinated, unduplicated, and complementary array of resources and programming to children attending Title I schools in our community.
