Civic & Social Organization - Chico, California, United States
The Chico Stewardship Network is a grassroots movement committed to the expansion of a strong people through the encouragement of individual and civic responsibility expressed as a partnership of citizen and institution in the People, Place, and Economy spheres of our culture. Why Stewardship? Stewardship is the careful and responsible management of something that has been entrusted. Stewardship is connecting with one's community and taking personal responsibility for the future of that community. Stewardship calls for engagement and collaboration, motivated by finding solutions for "us", not just "me". The American Idea of Self Governance requires that We the People exercise our freedom as a sacred trust. A fundamental cultural value of a self governing society must be personal responsibility, both for self and for those in ones circle of influence. The word that perhaps best expresses this value is stewardship, where priority is placed on the common good. In such a culture, we the people work with our institutions to educate our children, keep our streets safe, and provide economic opportunity for all. This community alliance of citizens and institutions is the backbone of a hopeful and prosperous people.
