Founded in 1971, CHOICE - Concern for Health Options: Information, Care, and Education - increases access to accurate information and essential services concerning reproductive, sexual, and family health, empowers people through education and counseling, and provides all of these services with empathy and respect. We maintain an extensive and rigorously updated database of medical and social service providers in the region; our staff constantly updates the content and style of our materials. Our Medical Advisory Committee, comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, and public health experts, reviews the accuracy of all CHOICE materials on a regular basis. CHOICE staff is trained extensively in short-term crisis counseling, human sexuality, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV/AIDS information. Some of our services include: • Confidential/anonymous Hotlines which are staffed by extensively trained professional counselors • CHOICE Hotline for general reproductive and women's health information, serving the five-county Philadelphia area• The Pennsylvania Department of Public Health AIDS Fact Line for HIV/AIDS related information and resources throughout the state• The Maternal and Children's Health Line which helps families obtain free or low cost health care and insurance coverage for their children• Need2Know, our recent texting initiative that offers confidential, medically accurate answers to hard-to-ask questions as well as referrals to healthcare providers if needed• Community Education provides advocacy, training, and public awareness about sexual health issues • Publications: Changes: You and your body; WTF (hard copy/online); Girls Want to Know; CHOICE Fact sheetsCHOICE works to overcome and eliminate barriers that impede access to quality health care and information for all individuals - regardless of economic status, gender, age, race, religion, culture, or sexual orientation.
