I have always been a woodwind guy. I started off playing saxophone, then added flute to my arsenal during my sophomore in high school. I started playing clarinet during my sophomore year in college, around that time I began experience a musical shift. I had joined a band named Clayboy?? in late 1994. This band introduced me to Sylvain Carton, who has an extensive background in American folk music. Clayboy underwent many philosophical changes, and in early 1995, the members formed the Japonize Elephants from Zorlock Land of the Lost. This band drew from the many different styles that influenced the members, but bluegrass and other folk music was the foundation of the band's sound. Up to this point, I had been primarily a jazz player. The Japonize Elf-ants had a profound effect on me, as I became increasingly influenced by the various folk genres. I began to study Buegrass and old time tunes, and was led to Irish music since there is a strong flute tradition in that particular folk genre. I associated very strongly with the sounds of wooden flute and pennywhistle.
