Christine Mello is a Cellist and Music Educator with extensive experience performing orchestra, chamber music, pit orchestra, musical theater, pops, ensembles and pick up ensembles, and in studios. She coaches students in her private studio, and is an Adjunct Professor of Cello, Musicology, and String Pedagogy at Eastern University of Pennsylvania. Her teaching background includes classroom instruction from the elementary to university level, curriculum development, and recruitment for music programs. She believes that for classical music to maintain its relevance, musicians must revolutionize their approach to incorporate educational outreach that makes it accessible and appealing to everyone.A Temple University graduate, Christine's musical pedigree encompasses studies with Orlando Cole at the Curtis Institute of Music as well as his student Metta Watts, Cello greats Hsiao-Ming Chen, Thomas Kraines, and Karen Meier, and Philip Lasser and Narcis Bonet—both students of Nadia Boulanger—in addition to completing a masterclass with Roy Howatt of the Royal Academy of Music in London and Royal Conservatiore of Scotland. In fall 2019 she'll be studying privately with Cole student and international soloist Lyn Harrell.Christine has performed in almost every style of music at venues along the East Coast and throughout Europe, most recently working with Music Academy International as Principal Cellist for the Mezzano Romantica Opera Festival under Conductor Neal Goren and Trentino Music Festival under Conductor David Jackson, and Section Cellist for the Mezzano Romantica Opera Festival under Conductor Christopher Larkin. Using a Vinyasa-inspired approach to teaching, she also coached young artists for their performance of Mozart's Viola Quintet (gm, K.516).Christine's broad experience as both an educator and a performer gives her the versatility to integrate seamlessly with musicians from diverse groups to perform the music she loves with passion and skill.
