The Cincinnati Sexual Health Consortium is a membership-based organization of sexual medicine providers in the Greater Cincinnati area, united to improve patient care in the area of sexual health. Our organization seeks to serve as a resource for both patients and providers in the field of sexual health. According to the World Health Organization, sexual health is "…a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfilled." (WHO, 2006a) Sexuality and sexual health are important factors of a healthy lifestyle, yet even today, so many adults and healthcare providers are reluctant to talk about sexual health. Embarrassment, fear or lack of understanding can keep us from having important discussions about sexuality and sexual dysfunction, resulting in a decreased quality of life for so many. The Cincinnati Sexual Health Consortium seeks to end the reluctance of having those discussions, erase the stigma associated with sexual issues and serve as an evidence-based resource of current education for providers and patients alike.
