Milestones of Cinema City Hungary: 1997: Cinema City Csepel, the first multiplex opened by the company in CEE region. 1998: Cinema City Debrecen, Győr, Sopron 1999: Cinema City Alba, Pécs 2000: Cinema City Miskolc, Szeged 2001: Cinema City Szolnok 2002: Cinema City Savaria, Zala 2003: Cinema City Balaton 2008: Cinema City Aréna megaplex with 23 halls. The only IMAX theatre of Hungary can be found here, as well as the VIP halls 2009: Cinema City Allee 2011: Following the regional acquisiton of Palace Cinemas, the following theatres became members of the Cinema City chain: WestEnd, MOM Park, Campona, Mammut, Duna Plaza, Kaposvár and Nyíregyháza. As a result of the acquisition of Palace Cinemas, Cinema City became the third largest movie chain in Europe. 2012: Digitalization of the whole cinema network. 176 halls were equipped with digital projectors. 2013: Opening of the first 4DX cinema hall in Cinema City Westend, Budapest The predecessor to Cinema City was formed by the Greidinger family in 1930, which opened its first cinema in Haifa, Israel in 1931. In the 1980s, the Company pioneered the establishment of a multiplex chain in Israel. During the 1990s Cinema City expanded to Central and Eastern Europe starting with Hungary (1997) followed by the Czech Republic (1998), Poland (2000), Bulgaria (2003), Romania (2007) and Slovakia (2011). In 2012 Cinema City completed digitalization of its cinema chain initiated in 2008. At the same time, since 2000, the Company has been growing its film distribution and cinema-related advertising businesses throughout its CEE countries of operations. In March 2014 the Company entered the UK and Irish markets through the combination of cinema businesses with Cineworld Plc. Cinema City changed its name to Global City Holdings and became the largest shareholder of the Europe's second largest cinema operator keeping its strong presence in cinema, entertainment and real estate businesses.
