City Museum Vrsac is one of the oldest museums in Serbia. It tells a story of the Serbian Banat (western Banat), the Vrsac municipality and its people, from the times of the first human communities, in the Paleolithic, to the present day. As a complex type of a museum, it consists of several departments: Archaeological, History, Numismatic, Ethnological, Natural History and Art. Also, it has conservatory workshops for ceramics, frescoes and paintings. The museum has an impressive collection of more than 260,000 irreplaceable objects and artifacts of significance relating to Vršac intriguing and lively past. There is no better resource for discovery of local history than this beautiful museum. Our exhibitions and activities seek to inspire a passion for Vršac as multicultural spot with a past that mixed the influences of many nations: Slavs, Germans, Hungarians, Romanians, Turks, Romans…Today the City Museum has exhibitions in five buildings: "Concordia", "The Pharmacy on the Stairs", the fortress "Vršac Castle", "Museum of Robert Hamerštil" in the village Gudurica near Vršac, and in the building of the Endowment Fund of the Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality.Permanent ExhibitionsIn the Concordia building visitors can see the permanent exhibitions "The cold weapon" and "The town life of Vršac in the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century". The Pharmacy on the Stairs, building has been registered as a cultural monument of great importance, with the permanent exhibitions "The History of Health Culture of the south-east Banat" and "In Remembrance of Paja Jovanović"."The everyday life of Jovan Sterija Popovic" is permanent exhibition in the Sterija museum placed in the building of the Endowment Fund of the SOCM.
