Centers of Watershed Excellence are universities recognized by EPA for their dedication to public involvement in watershed management practices. Clemson's Center works to provide science-based information from ongoing research and in partnership with faculty and campus resources in ways that can be more accessible to those who can directly apply that information. Projects include developing watershed-based plans, microbial source tracking, and leading citizen science monitoring programming. In addition, Clemson's Center provides opportunities for interns to be involved directly with community projects. Past projects include the development of hybrid courses, now offered by the Clemson Extension Service, including Master Pond Manager and Post Construction BMP Inspector certification. Future efforts seek to expand citizen science monitoring to tidal saltwaters of the state, and social science research regarding the importance of citizen science monitoring to stakeholders and users of collected data.
