Publishing - Garfield Heights, Ohio, United States
Cleveland Digital Publishing Users Group (CDPUG) (formerly Cleveland Desktop Publishing Users Group) was founded by Pixie Hranilovich in 1988, to educate those interested in desktop publishing, in the northeast Ohio area.Meetings were held to demonstrate new versions of software in graphic design and page layout, presented by leading software and hardware manufacturers.Publications were created to provide information and education to the membership, especially those unable to attend the monthly meetings. It was decided that there would be a bimonthly Newsletter offset by a bimonthly advertising publication called the Services Directory.Meeting topics have run the gamut; from typography and fonts to vector-based illustration, 3-D graphic design, page layout demonstrations from QuarkXPress, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe InDesign and raster-based software such as Photoshop. Representatives from Macromedia, Adobe, Quark, Hewlett-Packard, Aldus, Radius, Apple and more have presented at CDPUG meetings. Local firms have presented. On occasion, members with expertise in a specific software have also presented at our meetings. In 2000, CDPUG held its seventh Digital Artz Competition, inviting graphic artists and designers from northeast Ohio to participate, offering prize money and recognition to the winners. In 1999 and 2000, CDPUG conducted a seminar series called TechTalk, utilizing expert talent from within our membership as the seminar leaders. The seminars were met with success and attracted a sizable number of new members. As long as there are designers, printers, newbies, or veterans who have a question on a new desktop publishing technology, we will continue to be the source for you to come to.
