Simply put, the Climate Cost Project identifies, analyses, and documents the social and economic impacts of climate change across America. Climate impacts, from extreme weather and exacerbated health conditions, are severely affecting the livelihoods of the American public. Many of these costs are not captured by present research, resulting in a systematic underestimation and costs that leads to a lack of public funding as well as insufficient data to guide mitigation and adaptation strategies. The Climate Impact Census addresses data gaps by surveying public and private losses, helping policymakers and communities to understand the systemic weaknesses in resiliences planning that exacerbate economic damages. Our work is supported by generous individual donors, the Alex C. Walker Foundation, and the Kettering Family Foundation, with fiscal sponsorship from the Open Space Institute.
