Civic & Social Organization - Sierra Vista, Arizona, United States
1993 - This Gathering was a gleam in the eye of one man, John Shaver. Looking for an event to foster an interest in Western Heritage, promote the community, and increase tourism, John sold the "Cowboy Gathering" concept to the City, raised the funds, brought in the Artists and over the next 10 years, molded, channeled, coerced and developed the Gathering into a superb World Class event. Bud Strom joined John in 1995, and together, they made a superb team. John and Bud brought the magic of Cowboy Poetry to our community and made it a fashionable commodity. It was an art form that captured the history of the west, the life and legend and lore of the cowboy, talked of hurts and joys and downright humorous stuff. Their dream, the Cochise Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering, is now celebrating its 23rd Anniversary, thanks to Co-chairs George Wheat and Nancy Fusco as well as all the committee chairs and hundreds of volunteers. Once a year, bring the best Cowboy Poetry and Music to Cochise County.
