Horrified by the growing ecological problem created by 1 billion plus coffee pods disposed into landfill or incinerated in the UK each year, we decided something had to be done - and quickly.We scoured the world for an environmentally-friendly alternative and discovered a material that can be moulded into pods and lids using a by-product from sugarcane that's created when the syrup is extracted from the cane.Next, we looked at the coffee that goes into the pods. Prefilled pods are sourced from Europe, The Far East and even Australia. Roasted coffee is shipped to factories, filled and shipped to the UK. The shelf life of pre-filled coffee pods can be over two years, so the coffee cannot be classified as freshly roasted. The answer was to use freshly ground coffee from dozens of coffee specialists and artisan roasters throughout the country.We've designed the ultimate tray to fill your own pods with high quality coffee. It takes less than 3 minutes to create 10 pods and during the process you're going to be intoxicated by the unique aroma of freshly ground coffee – pure heaven!You'll pay less than prefilled coffee pods, enjoy a great coffee and when you've finished with the pod, just dispose them in your garden or place in your normal waste. Either way, it will turn into fertiliser within a few weeks.You'll be free to try 100's of roasts and blends until you find the ultimate coffee. Our current favourite is Sumatra Mandheling Dark with tones of spice, vanilla, sweet tobacco and chocolate. This is a Fairtrade coffee and organically grown by a women-only cooperative.
