Education/Training - Castlebar, Co. Mayo, IE
Colmac Robotics is an Irish ed-tech startup in the field of robotics and was founded in 2013 by Castlebar natives Colmán Munnelly and Niall McCormick. Colmán is currently studying Materials & Engineering Technology in Education in the University of Limerick and Niall is studying Electrical & Electronic Engineering in NUI Galway. To date, over 100 children have taken part in our robotics summer workshops held in Castlebar, Galway and Dublin in association with St. Gerald's College, Galway Education Centre, Engineers Ireland and Trinity Science Gallery. Over 100 more children have also taken part in school workshops and at the Mayo Science and Technology Festival 2013. During the workshops, children learned the fundamentals of sensors, motors, gears, programming and mechanisms, all using LEGO! Each day a different topic was introduced and they worked in pairs while tasked with various challenges, thus improving their teamwork, communication and problem solving skills.President Ronald Reagan once said: "There is a flickering spark in us all which, if struck at just the right age... can light the rest of our lives." Our robotics workshops provide the perfect environment for children of all ages and abilities to explore the endless possibilities of robotics and engineering. Creativity, imagination, teamwork and innovation are all actively encouraged to ensure your children have the skills required to design the world of tomorrow! Why Robotics? It's simple - Kids want to learn about robotics! Robots are cool and interesting and by designing them, you learn several different skills; computer aided design, electronic and mechanical engineering, physics, computer science, maths and practical skills. We provide a platform that allows children to learn these skills in a fun and stimulating environment. Bill Gates has said that robotics are the future, we want Ireland to be a part of that future!
