The Division of Water Resources (DWR), also known as the Office of the State Engineer manages water resources in Colorado through the administration of water rights, issuance of water well permits, representation of Colorado in interstate water compact proceedings, monitoring streamflow and water use, approving construction and repair of dams and performing dam safety inspections, issuing licenses for well drillers and assuring the safe and proper construction of water wells, and maintains numerous databases of Colorado water information.
