Colorado Urbanism is a built environment design consultancy led by Sam Friesema, an urban designer with over 17 years of professional design experience overlapping the fields of architecture, urban design, and real estate development, as well as academic teaching and research. Sam has previously worked for several top-rated award winning design firms, including Westlake Reed Leskosky (#1 US Firm, Architect Magazine) and RTA Architects (#1 Colorado Firm, Colorado Construction Magazine). His work has been recognized with awards from the American Institute of Architects, Environmental Design Research Association, Urban Land Institute, International Interior Design Association, American Library Association, and Rethinking the Future Sustainability Awards.Sam's design projects have been exhibited in Cleveland, Youngstown, Havana's Fabrica de Arte Cubano, and the Venice Biennale of Architecture. Sam is also an occasional speaker and guest lecturer on architectural and urban design theories and topics, and has presented in Cleveland, Colorado, the UK, and Canada. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Design from The University of Colorado and received his Master of Urban Design from Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC).
