We are CommuniLink: A philanthropic social network connecting donors and volunteers with organizations in need in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.Through our social network, organizations are able to post requests for donations or volunteers, and individuals are able to respond to these posts. Likewise, individuals can post items they have to donate, and also state their availability for volunteer opportunities.During the holidays, we saw how our community came together to provide for those in need largely due to increased awareness. After talking to community members and leaders, we saw a community-wide willingness to go ‘the extra mile' during the holiday season. So that sparked a question in our minds: how can we facilitate this philanthropic spirit year round?We realized a way to reduce that extra mile to an extra foot was through utilizing social platforms. We seek to combine social networking and philanthropy to unite the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.
