Working inside 19 schools and 2 schools districts through Southwest Virginia, Communities In Schools of Southwest Virginia (CIS of SWVA) is an independent affiliate of the Communities In Schools (CIS) national network, known as the leading and most effective dropout prevention organization in America, and the only such organization that is proven to both decrease the dropout rates and increase on-time graduation rates. Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.At CIS of SWVA, we work inside the school building every day to remove the barriers that prevent student success in the classroom. Students with unmet needs have a hard time learning which is why CIS of SWVA, in partnership with our local schools and our communities, works to provide and broker critical support to students in grades PK–12 to address academics, school attendance, behavioral issues, social emotional learning and more.
