The Community Education Coalition (CEC) is focused on aligning and integrating the Columbus, Indiana and region's community learning system with economic growth and an improved quality of life. CEC is a noteworthy, yet unexpected, example of private business stepping up to improve public education. The results thus far are evident in two major buildings, significant national recognition, and ongoing initiatives to bolster educational attainment for all in the small, primarily rural, southeastern Indiana communities it serves. The EcO Network - Economic Opportunities Through Education, is one of the largest initiatives of the CEC serving ten counties in Southeast Indiana. The CEC and EcO Network provide backbone facilitation support to bring employers, education and community partners together to align our region's education system with the needs of local employers. EcO Network was formed in 2007 to create a regional system of life-long learning connecting the residents of ten counties within rural Southeast Indiana to better economic opportunities through education. CivicLab Process of Stakeholder Engagement is our locally developed way of working together, enabling communities to achieve a shared understanding of complex social issues and co-create solutions at a systems level. Launched in 2012, CivicLab is an institute dedicated to advancing the practice of civic collaboration in our community, statewide and nationally. As a Technical Assistance Provider to Lumina Foundation, and supporting employers like Cummins Inc., and other state and national organizations, CivicLab has trained over 300 communities and over 9000 leaders nationwide. Indiana Talent Networks, facilitated by the CEC, is a statewide "network of networks" focused on talent attraction / retention and connection / engagement, emphasizing equity, supporting students of color and low-income students.
