The Working Beyond Program is a provincial/federal cost-shared initiative providing support to unemployed older workers in the communities of Abbotsford, Mission, Maple Ridge, Langley and Chilliwack through programming aimed at reintegrating them into employment. In situations where there is little likelihood of immediate employment, programming may be aimed at increasing the employability of older workers, and ensuring they remain active and productive labour market participants while their communities undergo adjustment. The Working Beyond Program responds to the Government of British Columbia's (Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development) commitment to support older workers affected by global and community economic adjustments. It supports unemployed older workers living in communities of the Fraser Valley affected by significant downsizing or closures or who are experiencing long term unemployment. The primary objective is to prepare participants for new and immediate employment or self-employment.The Working Beyond Program will incorporate the most successful practices and lessons learned from domestic and international evaluations of labour market adjustments and employment programs for older workers.
