Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) description and an introduction of the Macao Power System:(Update of 2012.07.20)The territory of Macao covers an area of around 29.2km2 including Macao peninsula, Taipa and Coloane islands. It is mainly composed of high density residential areas and large scale tourism with gambling business. Due to rapid growth in recent years from large scale casino complexes, a large increase in energy growth was recorded. Currently, the Macao high voltage power transmission system contains 3 different voltage levels: 220kV, 110kV, 66kV. The network has one 220/110kV substation, four 110/66/11kV substations and eighteen 66/11kV substations. There are three 220kV interconnection circuits, each rated 350MVA. The total gross energy consumption of 2011 was 4,002GWh. The amount of electricity imported from mainland China was 3,163GWh, accounting for 79% of total electricity consumption.
