A brief history of Concerned Black Men, Inc.In the city of Philadelphia, in 1975, teenage gangs and their attendantviolence, was at its peak. The activity of these young people becamethe focus of the print and electronic media. As a result, five AfricanAmerican Police Officers, who were concerned about the negativeimages of young African Americans, formed an organization toshowcase positive African American youths.In the ensuing 35 years, 23 Chapters with over 500 African Americanmen have been established throughout the United States, Pretoria,South Africa, and the Bahamas, and thousands of young people havebeen afforded access to scholarships and other life enhancingprograms.Some of the current programs include; African American YouthRecognition and Awards Banquet, Chess Program, Historical BlackColleges & Universities(HBCU) Tours, Saturday Mentoring Program,Tutoring Program, Bringing the Boy to Manhood, Evening and AfterSchool Computer Program, and Bringing Black Men to Mentoring.Our mission is to develop programs that motivate, educate and buildself esteem, and to present these programs and other activities to theyouth in our community, particularly, the African American youth; andwe will continue "Caring For Our Youth."FoundersLouis AbramsHarvey L.
