Nothing is built on stone; all is built on sand, but we must build as if the sand were stone.—Jorge Luis BorgesConstruction is an online journal that has been publishing poetry, fiction, visual art, interviews and political/social commentary since 2011. In January 2015, we launched a redesigned website and transitioned from publishing weekly content to quarterly issues published in Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. While we accept submissions on a broad range of themes, we are particularly interested in investigating the multifaceted meanings of constructions—literal, metaphoric, literary, theoretical, and more. We look for work that's not afraid to ask the difficult and often unanswerable questions: how do humans create a sense of place, home, self, nation? how can we challenge these constructions and redefine their boundaries? how do we, in Borges' terms, negotiate between stone and sand?In addition to poetry and fiction, Construction publishes nonfiction and columns on the Border and Architecture. For more information on these sections please visit our submissions page.We at Construction look forward to reading your work!
