Mental Health Care - Seattle, Washington, United States
Contemporary Psychiatry is a small, referral-based psychiatric private practice. The majority of psychiatrists meet with their patients every few months for quick, medication-focused visits. While this is sometimes all that is needed for targeted symptom alleviation, transformation of the self requires substantially more time. Psychodynamic psychotherapy involves exploration of unconscious phenomena. With deeper understanding often comes greater satisfaction in relationships, work, and a more durable alleviation of symptoms. This form of work requires meeting once or twice weekly. Psychoanalysis is the most intensive form of self study. Emphasis is placed on unearthing unconscious patterns through free association and transference phenomena within the psychotherapeutic relationship. Analysis requires a commitment of three to four sessions per week for a period of months to years. Psychotropic medications can be helpful to facilitate the work of therapy by stabilizing symptoms, but will only be prescribed to patients who are actively engaged in some form of therapy.
