Music - Deventer, Overijssel, Netherlands
The Dutch band Cords that was founded in 1990 by Simone Holsbeek (vocals), Trush (formerly known as Maz) Morsink (guitar), Arnoudt Pieters (drums) and Marc Fabels (bass), found a very unique sound amidst influences such as Sonic Youth, Soundgarden,My Bloody Valentine and Smashing Pumpkins, which can be best described as noise rock-meets-psychedelia. That distinct sound was picked up by the legendary BBC radio maker John Peel, who invited Cords to London for a Peel Session.Being Melody Maker's pick for '93 Cords caught the interest of NYC based TVT Records and despite offers from both Dutch and English record companies, Cords –as one of the first Dutch bands in history – signed a record deal with them for their debut album, Taurus No Bull. The band moves into a loft in downtown New York during the recordings and do lots of gigs (including the notorious CBGB'S). Later that year they recorded the Gasping EP at The Magic Shop Studio (NY), again followed by a tour through the U.S.A . Briefly interupted for a performance on the very first Lowlands Festival.
