Primary/secondary Education - Seattle, Washington, United States
CORE Tanzania (Creating Opportunity through Rural Education) is a U.S. nonprofit working to provide a quality educational alternative to children in poor, rural Tanzanian communities where existing schools are severely overcrowded and under-resourced. We envision a future where every child in rural Tanzania is educated to reach his or her maximum potential, creating village communities that are thriving both economically and socially, and contributing to a positive and sustainable future for the country. Our current project is to construct and operate a new primary school in the village of Bushasha, in northwestern Tanzania, where our founder grew up. Our school program will emphasize strong academics, with a focus on critical thinking and problem-solving. There will also be an emphasis on environmental sustainability, agriculture and health education, and cross-cultural understanding. We are working in partnership with the people of Bushasha to ensure community buy-in and community support. The village has already donated a 15-acre plot for construction of the school. We believe that all children, no matter how poor, are entitled to a quality education. With your help, we are turning that belief into action in Tanzania.
