Corkboard is the online literary journalism magazine of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Corkboard emphasizes the creative nonfiction work of student writers but also accepts – and encourages – submissions from writers outside the university.Corkboard's first edition will be published in May 2010 and will be published twice a year after that on a spring/fall schedule. In addition to the main magazine, Corkboard will be hosting a series of short-form writing contests which will be announced on our blog, Pushpins. As a journal of creative nonfiction, Corkboard seeks submissions that use the techniques of fiction to illuminate questions and concerns raised by well-researched and well-crafted pieces of nonfiction. The magazine welcomes writers who are hoping to experiment with their work and develop a voice for their writing. Submissions should be articulate, engaging, and cover topics that help enlighten those who read it. Corkboard welcomes personal essays, memoir, travel writing, food writing, biography, literary journalism, and other nonfiction forms. The magazine was founded by Deborah Blum, journalism professor and author, and created by a small group of student editors, notably Kim Ukura, Mark Riechers and Sarah Probst.Corkboard is happy to accept feedback throughout the year.
