Counterparts seeks entanglement of radical cross-disciplinary arts, architecture and research networks. We seek to host a common space for thinking, writing and making, based at 44 Stanley, Braamfontein Werf, Johannesburg. It is both functional, and speculative - both stable and unstable. We are posited between pedagogy and praxis - simultaneously exploring and making sense of the fascinating shifting contexts we find ourselves in. We string together people of like-minded, yet laterally diverging fascinations; towards history and archiving, belonging, otherness, economic, arts and spatial and institutional access, and transformative research pursuits. We are a young diverse group of emerging, collaborative practices in the creative fields, with ties to Johannesburg and other African cities. Counterparts is an initiative by Sumayya Vally and Sarah de Villiers.
