•Responsible for keeping the Police Department in contact and unison with the Town of Coventry Emergency Management Committee, maintaining contact with the Coventry Emergency Management Committee, the RI Emergency Management Agency, and other agencies concerned with mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.•Ensures that Emergency Management activities are based on the National Response Plan (NRP) and the Town of Coventry Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), knowledgeable and familiar with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) •Recommends and suggests implementation and compliance with National Incident Management System (NIMS), performs in an advisory capacity to the Town of Coventry, Shelter Manager.•Provides input into the strategic planning and decisions regarding police and town-wide emergency plans.•Establishes, maintains, and monitors multiple communications medias to develop situational awareness, works in cooperation with the Town EMC representative to create, implement and communicate an emergency management system that links town and police resources with emergency needs.•Prepares and provides research and training to police employees, public officials, and local organizations regarding emergency planning and response, audits and evaluates departmental readiness to respond to EOC exercises and disasters.•Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with federal, state and local governmental agencies and community partners (including corporate, academic, citizen groups, and medical) to coordinate emergency preparedness response, mitigation and recovery programs.•Supervise subordinates and others; ability to deal firmly, tactfully and courteously with the public; ability to delivers community presentations to enhance preparedness.
