Waste/Recycling/Environmental - N/A, N/A, N/A
Founded as a small art project in 2007, Create Plenty has evolved into a nonprofit focusing on environmental education, increasing student's ecoliteracy, and preparing them for the sustainability challenges they will face in the coming years. The organization is rooted in the themes of Community, Empowerment, and Art. Create Plenty motivates students, families, and communities not only through "education through art" but also "education through action". In 2014, this takes the form of two programs. In the Young Zeronauts Program, elementary and high school students are taught our ECCO curriculum where they gain critical skills and implement solution campaigns to reduce school waste and track it via our Virtual Quilt. Internships with companies seeking advancement in sustainability are available to participating high school students. The Virtual Quilt is the burgeoning hub for green teams in the Portland Metro area. Through the Quilt, school green teams share their waste reduction stories and keep track of their progress.
