Creating Survivors is: an IRS-501(c)3; mental health and suicide prevention; charity. Our mission is to help young people overcome adversity. We started in 2011 as just an idea a 19-year-old had to help other young people afford counseling – his counseling throughout high school was paid for by a mentor of his; that was the only reason he could afford to get the help he needed. In 2013, Creating Survivors was incorporated and in 2015 received official tax-exempt, 501(c)3-charity status.By 2017, Creating Survivors had achieved huge progress. In a population of nearly 20,000 young people: we reduced the cost of mental health services for those young people by 90%; while we built the structure for a sustainable and now operating mental health peer-support program that is open to chat when doctors and providers are not. But first, we instituted, in institutions of higher learning, a body of patients, clinicians, and policy makers that continually and now proven effectively: monitor; update; and constantly improve mental health services for the whole community. In 2018 Creating Survivors became bicoastal with operations in Washington, D.C. and California.
