Many people have either personally experienced or witnessed how difficult it is to recover from opioid, alcohol and/or other drug addictions. For many, recovery programs and other resources are unaffordable, and most often not covered by health insurance. Those who are able to complete these programs need continued support. Psychotherapeutic services can also be, or become, unaffordable. The 2016 Surgeon General Report states, in part, that more than 60 percent of people treated for a substance use disorder experience relapse within the first year after they are discharged from treatment. It further states that individuals who participate in substance use disorder treatment and [recovery supportive services] typically have better long-term recovery outcomes than individuals who receive either alone, and that active recovery and social supports, both during and following treatment, are important in maintaining recovery.) [Facing Addiction in America: The Surgeon General's Report on Alcohol, Drugs, and Health, 2016, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.]This realization inspired the vision of Crescent Moon Center, whose program is intended to provide long-term support to promote sustained recovery. Crescent Moon Center, A Place for Healing Through Horses and Art, was founded in 2017, as a tax exempt public charity as described in Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). The Center will offer experiential healing arts and equine programs, known to benefit and lead to sustained recovery. Each of our core programs is designed to address the particular needs of a participant for the specific purpose of developing self-awareness, insight, confidence and exploring solutions for personal change. The Center is not only a place where programs are offered, but is intended to provide a social community for those in recovery. Crescent Moon Center is currently transitioning from the development stage to the implementation of its programs.
