Croatian name: Hrvatski zavod za zdravstveno osiguranje (HZZO)CHIF was established to enforce the at that time basic health insurance and carrying out of other duties under the Health Insurance Act from 2001 and Healthcare Act from 1993. The rights, duties and obligations of the CHIF are established with the Compulsory Health Insurance Act ("Official Gazette" No. 150/08.), which applies from January 1st, 2009 and the Statute of the CHIF. The Statute of CHIF was brought by the Administrative Council of CHIF on February 14th, 2001, in accordance with the at that time valid Health Insurance Act and it was confirmed by the Croatian Government on February 14th, 2001.Supervision over the legality of the CHIF activities is carried out by the Ministry of Health and the audit of CHIF is carried out by the State Audit Office. CHIF is incorporated into the State Treasury System. The contributions for compulsory health insurance are paid to the single Treasury account, and as such they constitute the State Budget revenue.In the implementation of compulsory health insurance, CHIF particularly carries out the tasks, such as implementing the policy of development and improvement of healthcare from the compulsory health insurance, and also implementing the supplementary health insurance according to the provisions of the Voluntary Health Insurance Act ("Official Gazette" No. 85/06 and 150/08) for coverage of participation in healthcare service costs from the compulsory health insurance.
