City Government/Municipal Government - Kansas City, KS, US
Cross-Lines was established in 1963 as "a place of hope" for those struggling with the hardships of poverty. We are a safety net for our community. We provide direct assistance to at-risk families, the elderly and single individuals struggling to make ends meet. Our mission is to provide people in the Kansas City area affected by poverty with services and opportunities that encourage self-confidence, meet the needs of today, and provide tools for future self-sufficiency. Cross-Lines has three main programs:Housing Stabilization--Cross-Lines Housing Stabilization Program promotes housing and family stability by providing rent and utility assistance as well as homeless re-housing services. Many low-income families are one paycheck away from a financial crisis. An unexpectedexpense due to a car repair or sudden illness is often enough to cause many families to become unstably housed, or even homeless. Our Case Managers work with people to address the immediate needs and also help the families find long-term financial stabilityto keep families together in their homes.Hunger Relief--Cross-Lines Hunger Relief Program provides nutritious foods and alleviates hunger for those in need. Cross-Lines has three primary hunger relief services: our Community Kitchen, Food Pantry and Commodities program. The Food Pantry provides three days of food for families to prepare at home once per month. The Community Annex Kitchen serves breakfast and lunch five days a week, and the Commodities program provides monthly food boxes to low income seniors. Each of these programs is supplemented with fresh produce from our Community Garden & Orchard.Basic Needs--Cross-Lines Basic Needs Program provides for needs that many of us take for granted. We provide services that ensure the dignity and respect of the individuals and families in our community. Everyone deserves to be clean and healthy. Cross-Lines provides toiletries, cleaning products, diapers, medicine and dental assistance, clothing, and laundry and shower services.Cross-Lines is supported by a network of local businesses, individuals, faith communities, foundations and civic organizations. We provide daily direct assistance to at-risk families, the elderly, and single individuals living in poverty.
