The Situational Awareness and Identification System (SAAIS) is a suicide, accident, and terrorism prevention system that is deployed on railroad tracks, bridges, and other critical infrastructure. SAAIS uses thermal imaging cameras, infrared (day/night) cameras, pan, tilt, and zoom cameras, and static cameras, plus multilevel infrared detection towers and fence detection technologies with advanced analytics and AI to identify patterns consistent with suicidal, criminal, and terroristic behaviors. Additionally, SAAIS looks inward at the at-grade railroad crossing and identifies vehicles that are stuck on the tracks. When the system observes an incident (i.e., suicidal, criminal, and terroristic behavioral patterns or a vehicle on the tracks), it looks at time of day, day of the week, train schedules, and other variables and issues an alert based on the severity of the incident. The alert is sent to local law enforcement, train control dispatch, or an appropriate agency.
