The Center for Engagement, Service, and the Public Good was launched in 2014 to work on behalf of the students of Cal State L.A. and residents of Los Angeles to generate positive change across Southern California.Programs:Educational Participation in Communities (EPIC)Through community service, EPIC inspires and enables university students to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens by volunteering in a wide range of agencies serving a broad spectrum of communities throughout the Los Angeles area.America Reads and America CountsSince 1999, full-time Cal State L.A. students provide a weekly average of 10 hours of one-on-one support to inner-city elementary schools in Los Angeles. The Summer Youth Employment Program at Cal State L.A. currently partners with Para Los Niños to provide meaningful, paid job experience for low-income youths while also exposing them to the possibilities and benefits of a university education.Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students to serve preschool children in low-income neighborhoods.The Office of Service Learning links academic teaching, learning and community service by engaging students, faculty, and community partners in collaborative relationships that embrace diversity and social justice.Prison Graduation Initiative-Cal State LA is the only university in California to offer an in-person bachelor's degree completion program for incarcerated students.
