Culinary Arts Kids Eat is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in South Los Angeles that enriches and engages with students at the Santee Education Complex to develop skills in culinary arts and restaurant hospitality industry through practical hands experience. The students learn to garden and harvest produce in the school's organic learning garden that was gifted by the American Heart Association in Los Angeles. They then go through extensive culinary arts training and learn how to cook well balanced meals using the fresh produce from the learning garden. During this time, the students are developing a food product to be sold at pop-up farmers markets at the school, developing business plans and learning how to do food costing in order to learn how to be entrepreneurs in the food industry. Also, the students participate in weekly yoga, mindful meditation, and physical activities.
